Just over fifty Jefferson County Schools educators gathered after school on January 26 for professional books studies.  Teachers were treated with dinner before attending break out session on one of three professional books.  Susan Roberts organized the event sponsored by the Mossy Creek Literacy Council.

Kathy Weems and Sandi Ramey led one group through "Inside Information" by Nell Duke, a book about developing powerful readers and writers of informational text through project-based instruction.

Another group led by Leigh Daley and Melissa Barbee focused on the book "The Best-Kept Teacher Secret" by Harvey Daniels.  The secret is about how written conversations engage kids, activate learning, and grow fluent writers.

"Making Thinking Visible" by Ron Ritchhart, Mark Church, and Karin Morrison was the third option for a break-out session.  Ragan Long, supported by Susan Patterson and Paige James, facilitated the learning on promoting engagement understanding and independence for all students.

Participants left with the book from their session.  It was a fantastic night of collaboration and learning!
