Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America

    Family and Consumer Science has started off a new and exciting year.  Students present and past of Family & Consumer Science classes are encouraged to join FFCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America).  It is the only student organization whose concentration is the family.  Dues are $12.00 for the year and if students would like an FCCLA t-shirt, the cost is $20.00 (dues and t-shirt). On Sept. 18th, 10 students and 2 advisors attended the Career and Technical Student Organization Leadership Conference held at the Convention Center in Knoxville.  Students attended various workshops on leadership skills.

    October is Domestic Violence Awareness month.  At our next FCCLA meeting on October 25th, we will be collecting supplies for Safespace.  Safespace is a place for people who are victims of domestic violence, that serves Jefferson, Cocke, and Sevier Counties.  It offers medical, emotional and legal assistance at no charge.  Students are being asked to make a donation in order to attend the meeting.  Donations requested are: consumable grooming products, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, and other items.  These items are needed because when someone arrives at Safespace they have had to leave their home in a hurry and arrive with very little or no belongings.
